Why is it that some years, millions of people seem to all name their kids the same thing? I remember one year when my sister was in a classroom full of Brittneys and Matthews — it was insane! Was it something in the collective consciousness, or some kind of conspiracy? Who knows? But one thing is certain: every year, a lot of girls are named the same thing, and so are a lot of boys. Sometimes I think it is celebrity influence, as in the case of those 1994 Brittneys. And then people like Gwyneth Paltrow naming her baby “Apple.” What kind of name is that for a kid? Alas, to each his own.
