A few years ago, a movie called Kick Ass changed my life. This gratuitously violent film chronicles the life of a teenager who lives in a crime ridden city and wonders why no one ever does anything about it. He’s not talking about the police, but about the people themselves who he sees watching from apartment windows as he and one of his friends are mugged by neighborhood toughies, and instead of calling the police (or even just yelling out the window to scare the muggers away) they turn their backs, close the shades, and go on about their lives as though nothing was wrong. The story’s protagonist, who is more than just a bit of a nerd, and his two equally misfit friends are the kind of guys who spend their time rummaging through comics at the local comic book store. They don’t have the pretty girls. Or even “lives” to speak of. Dave Lizewski, the main character, decides it’s time for someone to step up and fill what he perceives to be a necessary role: he makes himself a costume, assumes the identity of a super hero character he calls “Kick Ass,” and determines to clean up the mean streets himself.

From there, he starts “training” and there is one scene, very frightening, when he is running across the top of a high rise in the city at full speed, looking at the top of the neighboring high rise. It brings to mind that scene from Toby McGuire’s Spiderman, when he’s testing his new super powers, and I found myself sucking in my breath, thinking there was no way this Dave kid was going to make it. And at the very last possible moment, he slides to a stop, his toes dangling over the edge of the building’s flat and gravelly roof, and he realizes the foolishness of his situation and doesn’t go through with it. He almost plummets to his death by not stopping in time, but catches himself luckily before it’s too late and steps away from the edge.

However, this doesn’t stop him from taking on criminals in his city, and it made me wonder whether there were any “real” super heroes out there, sort of like this fictional character, but in real life: I found one. He’s a guy in Seattle called Phoenix Jones, and he does have a costume, a (formerly) secret identity, and a small league of costumed companions who help him fight crime. Just thought I’d pass it along.

Why is it that some years, millions of people seem to all name their kids the same thing? I remember one year when my sister was in a classroom full of Brittneys and Matthews — it was insane! Was it something in the collective consciousness, or some kind of conspiracy? Who knows? But one thing is certain: every year, a lot of girls are named the same thing, and so are a lot of boys. Sometimes I think it is celebrity influence, as in the case of those 1994 Brittneys. And then people like Gwyneth Paltrow naming her baby “Apple.” What kind of name is that for a kid? Alas, to each his own.

Some of the names in the infographic you’re about to see are from the names of plants and animals. No, I am not kidding: there are people in this world who name their children things like “fox” and “wolf.” I guess it’s a good thing Duck Billed Platypus isn’t on the list, at least. Check it out:

Is fast food a mood altering substance? It depends on how you define that, but chances are for most people the answer would have to be “yes.” This is more true of men than of women, according to data collected in the infographic we are about to show you. McDonald’s is the leader of the fast food industry, but anyone who has ever watched the documentary Super Size Me will be able to admit to the growing problems fast food is causing in the world. It tastes really great, is easy to get, and doesn’t cost very much, but fast food is, according to many experts, just as addictive as heroin.

Just as ADT is the uncontested king of home security services, McDonalds is the global ruler in fast food. Different items are on the menu all over the world, too, so the company has aligned itself in an intimate way with cultural preferences in each of its worldwide locations, creating foods that are irresistible to people in each country where they have a presence. And the addictive ingredients are just as insidious! What makes people in Texas come running back for more is quite a different story from what brings Japanese fast food lovers back time and time again.

Check out this infographic about guys and their fast food habits.

Why do we find it so funny when people get hurt? It makes it ten times funnier when they inflict pain on themselves and its one hundred times funnier when they are hurting themselves trying to do the impossible task of a Wipeout course. Wipeout is a TV show that has captured the attention of people all over the country.

This show is where contestants compete on an obstacle course that is nearly impossible in the hopes of winning and receiving the victory money. The course has a number of sections that the contestants have to complete before they can move on to the next level. For some stages of the show when they are qualifying they are racing against the clock as well as fighting the obstacles they are faced with.

One of the best parts about the show is that there are narrators that have commentary about all of the people competing in the competition. The wipeout course is set up where it is inevitable that the people are going to fail. Most of the people that are selected to compete aren’t selected because they are qualified to do well, but because they will be entertaining to watch fall. The narrators have put together a video of some of the best wipeouts from Wipeout!

Enjoy the wipeouts!

Have you ever had anything stolen from you? That is one of the worst possible feelings. Not only was something taken away from you, but you feel like you were violated and that your personal space was invaded. Add all of it together and that is just one ugly way to feel. Imagine how bad you would feel if your vehicle happened get taken away from you by a criminal. You would of course be very upset. While you cannot completely rule out a car theft happening to you, you can take precautions and certain measures to make sure that you and your car do not end up victims to some pesky car thief. Things like fleet tracking for company cars and ensuring that your personal car does not show off your valuables are great ideas.

Another way to see if you are more likely to lose your whip to a crook is to study the infographic here that shows the statistics on stolen cars. Believe it or not the car that is stolen most often is a 1994 Honda Accord. If you have one of those in your suburban driveway, then you might be asking for someone to steal your ride. Find out other commonly stolen cars and more below.

Lightning has always been a fear of mine even before I even knew what it was. I think that there is something to say about the things that give you that feeling of uneasiness before you know why. After seeing the damage and knowing the facts on lightning I realized why it was so unsettling.

Have you ever heard the saying that “you are more likely to get struck by lightning than to get attacked by a shark”? I’ve heard it a time or two when I was having a shark fearing day at the beach. I never really thought much more about it other than it was just a way to get me into the ocean. The alternative didn’t seem any more likely than getting bitten by a shark so I didn’t worry about it.

After seeing these facts I have realized that getting struck by lightning is actually a possibility, and a large one at that. An estimated 400 people will be stuck by lightning in the United States alone this year. That’s only 10% of the total amount of lightning strikes across the globe. You should also make sure to protect your home from lightning and other dangers.

When I saw all of these facts and how easy it is to get struck by lightning I will steer clear of any and all storms that look like they will produce lightning.

The definition of danger is often categorized by how people perceive things instead of how they really are as an effect of this things that we think are so dangerous turn out to not be as bad as we think they are. The strange thing is, things that we think are harmless turn out to be killers. After taking a look at the statistics of dangerous animals that are likely to be called a killer, I was shocked at what was found. The animals that I has thought to be such a danger to humans turns out to have less than one death per year! The things that I find more common and harmless turn out to rank at the top among killers.

Many people have things such as home wireless security to insure their families safety. Others visit the home security store to warn off dangerous people. Shockingly, they are much more likely to die from a strange event or a health problem that they brought on themselves. If you think that you knew what was dangerous and what isn’t you might have to rethink your definition of danger. Who would have thought that so many people have died from falling off a ladder while preforming simple tasks. It’s crazy to think about how often people are injured or killed doing things that wouldn’t be considered dangerous. What’s danger to you?

Have you ever heard the saying that things get better in time? This is true with a lot of things, puppies and kittens stop chewing up the house, wine tastes better, cheese is better aged, even fruit and vegetables are better after a short time of ripening. This theory clearly carries over to people as well.

Being the oldest person in the world is something that only one person can take claim to. Ms Jeanne Calment reached the age of 122 years and 164 days. She lived in in Arles, France all of her life. She is the oldest person to ever be documented without a doubt proving her age. She is also the oldest person to ever be completely proven to live over the age of 120.

Jeanne Calment was born on February 21, 1875 and passed away on August 4, 1997. To save you the trouble of doing the math she lived 44, 724 days! She first became a star when she turned 113. She was at a conference and recalled the time that she met Vincent van Gogh at her uncles fabric store. She said that he was in search of paint, pencils, and canvas. She also said that she was not fond of him by saying he was ”dirty, badly dressed and disagreeable”, and “very ugly, ungracious, impolite, sick”. She also recalled memories of watching the Eiffel Tower being built.

Jeanne lived on her own until the age of 110 when she moved into a nursing home. In 1990 she made history once again being the oldest person to ever be in a major film. She played herself in the film Vincent and Me. Clament has made a number of public appearances since she reached the age 110.

She has set and broken a number of records and world records. She claims the title for the World’s oldest human to ever be documented. Her title has been disputed with other people claiming to live longer but she continues to keep her title due to the lack of evidence others possess. She is the oldest person in Europe, the oldest undisputed living person, the first person to be documented to reach the age of 115, and the last known living link to the 1870′s.

Jeanne was not particularly health conscious or worked out a a lot, although she did play tennis, fence, ride her bike, and roller blade. She continued to ride her bike until she reached the age of 100. Her tip for remaining youthful up until the end is olive oil on both her food and skin. She also had a diet consisting of port wine and one killo of chocolate a day. In addition to her diet she smoked two cigarettes a day from age 22 to age 117. Jeanne got better with time gaining knowledge, wisdom, and fame.

Incense is something that has been used for centuries and centuries. It dates back to times that even we are not aware of, but we do know that it was very long ago. It is created with incense resins that are naturally occurring, like herbs, oils, and wood. You will find that if you get started on making your very own incense that you will quite enjoy it. It is not only a special way for you to use all of your creativity, but also a chance for you to relax and create the type of incense that you truly want. The choices of frangrances are up to you. You can create an awakening blend to rise up with in the morning, an intoxicating combination of relaxing oils, or even smells that will help your to have better concentration or more sensuality. The incense you create is your very own. To get started, follow the below tips. If you are not one to be crafty and venture out into making your own incense, then go to my favorite site for incense, legalherbsdirect.com.

You will first need to decide on what the type of the incense is that you desire. There are two types of incense that can be created. Both are common, but maybe just a little more common would be the combustible type of incense. With this kind, the actual incense mixture is binding to the incense sticks or cones in order to be burned. The incense is lit with a flame, the flame is put out, yet the incense continues to slowly burning giving off the wondrous odors. The other type of incense that you can create is simply the ingredients alone. Often the loose incense ingredients are made into pellets of sorts. You will heat this type of incense through charcoal or other things. It is easier than combustible, but it does take more things required to burn it.

After you have decided which type of incense that you will make, then you are almost done aside from actually making it all. You will also need to figure out what you will burn the incense in or with. Combustible incense is a bit easier, as many, many places sell incense burners. If you really are the creative type, then you can even make your own incense burners too. With non-combustible incense, then you will need a bowl or saucer of some sort with ash or other materials like that in order to burn it.

If you have made you own incense, then do not be afraid to share it. People who enjoy burning incense always love to share new and different types and smells. It is wonderful!

We have all heard of some pretty strange things. You know, like people who are afraid of cotton balls, those who are addicted to burning incense, and people who count jelly beans in their head at all times. Really strange, right? Well, have you heard about the magnet boy? That’s right, magnet boy, at least that is what his school mates call him.

There is an eleven year old boy who is from Mossoro, Brazil who has magnetic qualities. His father tested him out after hearing another instance of this. The young boy’s name is Paulo. Paulo can have things like scissors, cutlery, and cameras stick to him thanks to a magnetic force. He can even hold up pans that you cook with on his back or stomach the magnetic force is so strong! Paulo’s doctor has never witnessed anything like this in all of his years of practice, so just how common is this?

Another term for these people who can hold up all kinds of metal and magnetic objects is psychokinesis. The people who have this psychokinesis have crazy impressive electromagnetic traits and forces. One of the first recorded and looked into cases of psychokinesis it the one involving the man named Miroslaw Magola who is from Poland. In the late nineties he was extensively studied and even featured on some pretty popular television shows to show off his amazing abilities.

Now, some people have tried to take advantage of this and create videos saying that they themselves are magnetic, yet the things that are drawn to them and stick are things that are not magnetic at all. Plastics and such are not able to be magnetic, so these people are lying. There are even more people who actually put magnetic pieces into their body, like say the fingertips, as to say that they have a special talent. When clearly these types of people are just trying to become recognized for something that they cannot even do.

The fact that some people could actually have a very strong magnetic force is still baffling to many a people, and there are sites and places all over the internet that try to dispute this strange phenomenon. What’s your opinion?
